When you have an emergency, you can telephone 9-1-1 free of charge. 9-1-1 will connect you to an ambulance, police or fire services to help you.

You can dial 9-1-1 free from your home phone, cell phone or any public payphone.

An emergency is any situation where people are not safe and/or property is at risk and you need help immediately.

Examples of 9-1-1 emergencies are:

  • Fire
  • A crime in progress
  • Immediate medical issues

Multi-lingual 9-1-1 Service

If you do not speak English, translation services for over 140 languages are available through 9-1-1. Ask for service in your language if you cannot explain the situation in English, or if you cannot understand the call-taker.


Ambulance service is provided by Peel Region Paramedic Services.

If you have to take an ambulance to a hospital, you must pay a small fee.
