Ontario is introducing initiatives to ease career transitions for Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) members, their spouses, and veterans, especially in skilled trades and tech fields. Key proposals in the Honouring Veterans Act, 2024 aim to expedite credential recognition for military experience, allowing veterans and military spouses to transition more quickly into equivalent civilian trades, such as welding. Additionally, Ontario is investing $2.4 million in the Skills Development Fund to offer free tech and cybersecurity training, including $1.9 million for Coding for Veterans and $491,000 for the Soldiers in Tech project.
The province’s initiatives also support credential recognition through the Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) process in Ontario colleges. This process allows veterans to earn academic credits for prior military experience, reducing costs and time for degrees. These efforts align with Remembrance Week, honoring veterans by enhancing recognition and career pathways for military families in Ontario.
