Canada is implementing special measures to support those affected by last year’s record-breaking wildfire season. The government announced that Canadian citizens and permanent residents impacted by the wildfires can get free replacements for lost or damaged documents, such as passports and permanent resident cards. Additionally, temporary residents, including international students and foreign workers, can extend or restore their status without charge, allowing them more time to address wildfire-related disruptions. Emergency personnel from abroad helping with wildfire efforts are also exempt from application and biometrics fees. These measures will remain in effect until November 30, 2024.
