Apr 9, 2024

The Ontario government is investing in healthcare infrastructure to improve access to care for residents in Etobicoke and Peel Region by supporting the construction of the new Gilgan Family Queensway Health Centre. Premier Doug Ford expressed enthusiasm for the project, highlighting its role in enhancing healthcare connectivity and convenience in these communities. The $1.3 billion contract for the construction has been awarded to EllisDon, marking Canada’s largest health infrastructure renewal project. The hospital, set to open in late 2029, will feature a modern nine-story patient tower with over 350 beds and fully private patient rooms to ensure privacy and infection prevention. This expansion aims to meet the growing healthcare needs of the region, including specialized care services. Deputy Premier Sylvia Jones emphasized the government’s commitment to investing in Ontario’s healthcare sector, addressing the needs of Peel Region and Etobicoke for decades to come. The investment includes adding over 600 new hospital beds as part of Trillium Health Partners’ redevelopment plan to expand services and reduce wait times. Overall, Ontario’s healthcare investments over the next decade will lead to significant infrastructure improvements across the province, benefiting communities with increased access to care.
