Temporary resident pathway opens for Palestinian extended family in Gaza

Jan 18, 2024

The Canadian government has announced the opening of a temporary resident pathway for extended family members in Gaza of Canadian citizens and permanent residents, providing a safe haven for those directly affected by the crisis. Eligible family members include spouses, common-law partners, children, grandchildren, siblings, parents, or grandparents of Canadian citizens or permanent residents, along with their immediate family members. Once in Canada, eligible individuals can apply for fee-exempt study permits or open work permits. They will also have access to health coverage and settlement services to support themselves during the ongoing crisis in Israel and the Palestinian Territories. The Canadian government is working with regional partners to facilitate the exit of citizens, permanent residents, and eligible family members, although leaving Gaza remains challenging due to various entry and exit requirements. Applicants who can leave Gaza must meet admissibility requirements, including biometrics before being approved to come to Canada.
