The Canadian government, through the Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, Marc Miller, has introduced a series of initiatives to support Francophone immigration outside Quebec. These measures include a new Francophone immigration policy aimed at promoting the vitality and economic development of Francophone minority communities, addressing labor shortages, and developing a program for Francophone economic immigration. The Welcoming Francophone Communities initiative has been renewed and expanded to include 10 additional communities, providing funding for the integration of French-speaking newcomers. The new Francophone Immigration Support Program will fund projects to eliminate barriers to Francophone immigration, facilitating international promotion and recruitment efforts. These initiatives are backed by an investment of over $137 million under the Action Plan for Official Languages 2023-2028, demonstrating the government’s commitment to the vitality of Francophone minority communities. The minister also noted that the target of 4.4% French-speaking resident admissions outside Quebec was surpassed in December 2023, reaching approximately 4.7%, with further targets set for the coming years. These measures aim to strengthen, grow, and ensure the long-term vitality of Francophone minority communities outside Quebec, with collaboration between the federal government, provinces, territories, and key stakeholders.
