The Ontario government is allocating $751,607 to aid 3,914 automotive employees affected by the closure of Stellantis automotive assembly plants in Peel and Durham regions. The investment will enable Unifor National to establish action centres in Brampton and Oshawa, connecting impacted workers and their families with essential supports and services. Minister David Piccini emphasizes the province’s commitment to supporting workers in the burgeoning electric vehicle and advanced manufacturing sectors, ensuring they acquire the skills necessary for lifelong careers. The newly established Unifor Action Centres will operate until at least January 2025, offering skills development programs, career counselling, networking opportunities, and other assistance to affected workers.
