Temporary measures to support people affected by the crisis in Lebanon

Oct 31, 2024

In response to escalating violence in Lebanon, Canada has announced temporary support measures for Canadian citizens, permanent residents, and Lebanese nationals impacted by the conflict. Canadian citizens, permanent residents, and their immediate family members who left Lebanon on or after September 29, 2024, can apply for free open work permits, study permits, or status extensions upon arriving in Canada. This applies to spouses and dependants, regardless of nationality or travel method.

Lebanese nationals already in Canada on temporary status can also apply for free work or study permits and status extensions. These measures aim to keep families together and ensure safety. Canadians are advised to avoid travel to Lebanon, while IRCC has ramped up its application processing from the region. Further details are available on the IRCC’s website.
